REHOMING, ADOPTIONS AND FOSTERING

Short Term and Long Term

We are delighted you have chosen to rehome a rescued animal. You are making the best decision.
Why buy a horse when you can adopt one instead.

In order to be eligable to adopt or foster an animal from us you MUST have a valid Equine Premises Registration Number  (Issued by Department of Agriculture) and you MUST have good knowledge of equines in general.

If you do not have an equine premises number please click on the link below to start the process.
We will match the number you give us against DAFM records so please be honest and truthful.

Please note our current adoption donation for all equines is between €300 and €400 (each equine will now have their own fee) ( non-refundable). All our equines are fully vaccinated, wormed, deliced and are microchipped with a valid paspport (it's the law).
Just before they head off to their new home we will have our farrier and dentist attend to them also.

The process

Step 1: The first step of our short adoption process is to meet the horse you are interested in. This is to determine if you are a good match for eachother. You then need to draw your full attention to our adoption policy, after reading this and you wish to proceed you fill out our expression of interest form. (Below)

Once this form is approved you will be asked to fill out our full adoption application form. Your form will be reviewed by the adoptions team (please note we are all volunteers so a response will take up to 72 hours). If the form is approved we will be in touch to arrange a detailed homecheck

One of our friendly welfare (field) officers will carry out a homecheck of the location you propose to keep the equine(s) at. He or she will check areas such as grazing, stabling facilities, any field shelters etc.  A homecheck is also our chance to meet the family and to ensure the setting is right for the equine. A homecheck is nothing to worry about, we are not here to judge.

Once the homecheck has been passed and If both parties still wish to proceed with the adoption process we will arrange for you to meet the equine one last time before you take him or her home. You will now enter into a loan agreement (legal binding contract) with L.H.P.R. An adoption donation of €300/€400 (each equine has their own fee) is requested for all equines - this must be paid before the animal leaves our premises. This is non refundable.

All equines remain the legal property of Leinster Horse and Pony Rescue. This allows us to safe guard their welfare for the future. It might be comforting to know that should your circumstances change , the equine can be safely returned to us to be rehomed again or placed in short term foster. Please note the adoption donation will not be refunded.

Our team of welfare officers will provide every adopter with lifetime support. This includes two visits a year to ensure both person and animal are getting on well together. We will also be here to answer any questions you may have. Our adopter helpline is open 24 hours a day exclusively for adopters only.  We also send you reminders as to when the horse or pony needs to be wormed/vaccinated etc!
